Downloads on the mobile phone - Download everything on the mobile phone from a trustworthy source only.
 
Use strong passwords- Don’t repeat your passwords on different sites, and change your passwords regularly. Make them complex. That means using a combination of at least 10 letters, numbers, and symbols. A password management application can help you to keep your passwords locked down.

How to report, if someone becomes a victim?
You can report about any cyber crime at your nearest cyber police station. You can even file an FIR at your nearest Police Station. There is no jurisdictional issues pertaining to cyber crimes. Thus one can file FIR at any Police Station in India.
